Everything, including spirits, is made of energy. Since that's true, there ought to be a way of visually capturing a spirit's energy on a video monitor. Think of those monitors the military uses to capture a person's body heat, unless that's just science fiction.

I know that most of what is shown in movies is just Hollywood effects, but I remember watching Rose Red, and towards the end, while Joyce was working there was a device that was counting the number of , i assume, ghosts or spirits in the room. It was just kinda of a briefcase sized box with an LCD screen and a few adjustment knobs on it.
