RE: What do you think of smoking?
I've only been smoking cigs for about a year.Due to the j.o.b. had to pause on the pot which were my cigs. It's more ritual than a need for me. And no I would not smoke in a no smoke zone. It goes against the nature of the ritual. Like any other drug it's not for everyone. Hell some should refraim from breathing all together.

RE: What do you think of smoking?
I smoked for 20 years and I quit March 17 08.. it is a very nasty habit that will only kill a person.
So far I have lost an Uncle and hubbies Grandmother to lung cancer my Grandpa has lung cancer now.. he did get some chemo which slowed it way down but pretty much once you get it, it is going to kill you. But that is just my opinion. |

RE: What do you think of smoking?
I've been smoking for 42 yrs. Yes, it's a bad habit, but I wouldn't exactly call it nasty. Nasty is spitting chewing tobacco. I enjoy smoking and probably will continue to do so even though I know it's bad for my health. It's my only vice.

RE: What do you think of smoking?
but at least chew isn't actually hurting anyone else. yeah i find it gross, i make my fiance do it away from me cuz i hate the smell and don't like to see it. but smoking harms others around you as well as you. take yesterday for example. i was starting to feel like i MIGHT be getting a cold. my throat was kinda feeling scratchy. nothing major. was sitting in the parking lot to pick up my fiance after work, and this guy a few cars away decided he needed to chain smoke in his car. of course the wind was blowing from his way toward me. so instantly i felt REALLY horrible just b/c of that. then about 3 other people walked out of the work place and into the parking lot and lit up as well. i went from being in the mood for taking a nice walk with my fiance after we ate dinner to only want to crawl into bed within 20 minutes. now maybe i woulda felt that way eventually, i STILL really feel bad right now, after barely sleeping all night. but it woulda happened much slower. that smoke irritated everything in my body and it just gave up!
so before you think it's such a great thing, remember the people around you who you are hurting because of it! my fiance can't spend much time at my dad's house, cuz both my dad and stepmother smoke, and do it all thru the house. his allergies act up after a couple hours there and it usually turns into a cold. and they don't have to be smoking there at the time, it's just the shit that lingers cuz they do it so much! RE: What do you think of smoking?
Why do I feel as if I've just been burned at the stake? (pun intended) I never said it was a great thing. It's an addiction like any other. Trust me, if someone could find a way to make me stop smoking without going completely insane, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I've tried everything I know of, gum, the patch, you name it, all to no avail. People my age who smoke usually started back when the harmful effects weren't generally known. It's not like we intentionally started smoking so we could poison the universe and make the lives of others miserable just for spite. Lots of things we do are harmful to others. Every time you drive your car you're polluting the air. I agree that adding to the situation doesn't help, that's for sure, but most smokers aren't out to ruin your life. People smoke for many reasons, almost all of them psychological. Most would love to quit. So, in the meantime, until they find a humane way for us to quit, please be a little more tolerant. They may be hurting too, far more deeply than you can imagine.

RE: What do you think of smoking?
Oh I've been more than tolerant my whole life. My father can't ever seem to remember to crack the window in the car, and he likes to chain smoke too. And until recently I've never had it in me to demand that he crack the window for MY health cuz I didn't choose to put that smoke in my lungs that he is causing. It's kinda bad when I choose not to visit my father and his family all based on how thick the cigarette smoke is in his house! That hurts me to not spend time with the people I love simply because of not wanting to shorten a few years of MY life all because of smoke that someone CHOSE to put there all because "it's a bad habit". I realize it's hard for people to quit. I'm sure a lot of people would love to. I do believe that. But I'm sick of people being disrespectful to others just so they can get their fix! They aren't allowed to smoke in the building my fiance works in. So what does everyone do? They stand right outside the doors on the sidewalk and do it. You can't walk by that building and not breathe in a lungful. The ONLY way out of that building is surrounded by smoke.
I think it's bad that when I visit my father and then go see my mother afterwards, and without her knowing where I was previously she can guess that I was at my dad's house all because I reek of smoke and I don't smoke! That's why I hate it! It's bad for the person doing it and anyone around them. It smells bad. So I've definitely had my share of tolerating it! Believe me! PINWPA
